“Increasing wildfire risks, more frequent natural disasters, and an uncertain geopolitical landscape – this is the complex environment the international community faces today more than ever,” says Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG and organizer of the six-day INTERSCHUTZ. With over 1,500 exhibitors from 51 countries, the fair is already breaking records.
Nearly 100 exhibitors alone will showcase their solutions in Hall 17, focusing specifically on civil protection. “Alongside fire and rescue services, civil protection has become a major pillar of the fair,” Köckler explains. Collaboration between civilian aid organizations and the military will also be featured more prominently.
Exhibitors from across the globe will present products, systems, and services covering the full spectrum – from prevention and protection of critical infrastructure to rapid operational readiness in emergencies. Civil protection encompasses not only health crises and infrastructure failures but also major accidents and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.
At the center of the exhibition hall, the joint pavilion “New Concepts for Civil Protection” provides first-time exhibitors with a platform to showcase their innovations and practical solutions. Participants include ALTRAD plettac assco, BDB – Bundesverband Deutscher Bestatter, ESCHENBACH, Kallweit, Marine Alutech, Marsol Technologies, RÖDER, and Veltron Deutschland.
A special highlight for civil protection and international disaster relief awaits visitors in Hall 23. For the first time, the German Red Cross will set up a fully operational mobile hospital with 20 tents across a 5,000-square-meter site – a system that has already provided vital support in earthquake relief missions abroad. Other major aid organizations, including the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) from Germany, rescue dog teams, and specialized drone units, will also offer extensive insights into their work, both indoors and outdoors.
The Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (BBK) (engl. Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance) will present its fully revised guide on preparing for crises and disasters. The guide provides practical advice on how individuals can prepare at home for potential disruptions to daily life or emergency situations.
INTERSCHUTZ’s conferences and lectures also offer valuable insights. The FEU Leadership Conference , taking place on June 3–4, will bring together international leaders to discuss strategic priorities in European civil protection. Tickets are available here . The CP-Conference by CPM Verlag also returns, addressing current challenges and solutions in civil protection. The conference will be conducted in German. Tickets and program information can be found at www.cp-konferenz.de . Debuting at INTERSCHUTZ, the WildfireCamp@INTERSCHUTZ will serve as a specialized platform for experts to exchange strategies and technologies for combating vegetation and forest fires.
Civil protection will be a central focus of the INTERSCHUTZ Forum throughout all six days of the fair. For example, Colonel Armin Schaus of the Bundeswehr Operational Command will deliver daily briefings on the Operations Plan Germany (OPLAN), which integrates key military elements of national and alliance defense with essential civilian support services. Schaus emphasized that INTERSCHUTZ 2026 “offers the right platform at the right time,” addressing the full spectrum of civil protection under the motto “Safeguarding Tomorrow,” reflecting the challenges of today.
Other Forum presentations will cover current developments and challenges in civil protection. Fritz Pickert from THW will updates to UAV training for civil protection on Monday and provide insights into the use of edge AI and language models on Tuesday. Dr. Florian Gering from the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (engl. Federal Office for Radiation Protection) will outline the specific requirements for personnel responding to radiological emergencies. The BBK will also present the National Situation Report on public behavior during crises. The full INTERSCHUTZ Forum program, including lecture schedules, topics, and speakers, will be available on April 9, 2026, at www.interschutz.de/program .
Through its comprehensive combination of exhibitions, live demonstrations, professional dialogues, and conferences, INTERSCHUTZ 2026 underscores that civil protection is a vital component for ensuring the safety and resilience of society in the future.
