Premiere: The German Red Cross presents its Emergency Hospital
From June 1 to 4, the GRC’s Emergency Hospital demonstrates how medical technology adapted to the harshest conditions and precise logistics ensure comprehensive medical care. At the same time, it demonstrates how medical operations can be organized quickly and efficiently, even under extreme conditions.
The “Hospital in a Box”
Hall 23
Experience for the first time in Hall 23, across 3.000 m², the GRC’s Emergency Hospital – a medical care unit developed from decades of operational experience that can be deployed to a disaster or conflict zone within just 72 hours.
It is one of the Emergency Response Units (ERUs) of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and is modularly designed, enabling the GRC to respond flexibly to any crisis. Its building-block structure allows the GRC to provide assistance where the need is greatest, even under the most adverse conditions.
An experienced team of around 30 specialists – doctors, nurses, midwives, and technicians – works closely with local clinical staff to ensure optimal treatment. This enables the hospital to become independently operational quickly and to guarantee medical care for a population of up to 250,000 people.
From acute emergency care to surgical procedures, mother-and-child care, laboratory, and X-ray services, as well as outpatient and inpatient treatment for up to 60 patients, everything is ready for use. Sanitation facilities, kitchens, and laundry ensure smooth hospital operations.
With its own water and power supply, weighing around 50 tons and packed on pallets, the hospital can be transported by plane or truck directly to affected regions.
This unique setup shows how rapid, professional medical assistance is possible even under extreme conditions.
We look forward to seeing you!

Statement
Jürgen Christmann
Vice President of the German Red Cross (DRK)
“Current threats and geopolitical upheavals make it clear: we must now consistently invest in preparedness, self-help capacity, and the resilience of the population. We cannot afford delays. As an auxiliary to the German authorities in the humanitarian sector and Germany's largest relief organization, we bear a special responsibility in civil protection. At the same time, we are an operationally experienced actor in international humanitarian assistance. At INTERSCHUTZ, we will be presenting, among other things, our Emergency Hospital and demonstrating how technology proven in major global crises and highly complex logistics make a 'hospital out of a box' possible — and what day-to-day clinical life looks like under crisis conditions."
