Optical technologies for situational awareness support authorities in civil protection and disaster relief, police operations or major events with up-to-date and reliable situation images and maps. Decisive for the operational use is the integration into existing workflows and the continuous processing, consolidation and presentation of the available systems, data and information. This is the field of action of the Innovation Lab OPTSAL at the DLR Institute for Optical Sensor Systems in Berlin. OPTSAL offers a unique development and test environment for its partners from industry, authorities and organisations with safety and security tasks as well as research to test and further develop technologies and procedures in a realistic operational environment and to bring them into application.
