All hazard approach, emergency preparedness, civil-military cooperation: Those are only a few topics the Federal Office of Civil protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) is working on daily, to strengthen Germany’s overall civil security architecture.
As the central federal authority for civil protection, BBK performs a wide range of cross-sectoral tasks. For example, it compiles a national civil protection situational picture, issues warning to the population about potential hazards and complements the civil protection capabilities of the federal states.
At the BBK’s own Federal Academy for Civil Protection and Civil Defence, specialists and decision-makers receive training through dedicated civil protection programmes. Another key focus of the BBK’s work is strengthening the population’s ability to protect itself in emergencies.
With its expertise in civil protection, the BBK is an important partner at the federal level for the states, local authorities and aid organisations.
