Mayday Rescue Challenge
At the stand of the TFA Team of Hamburg Fire and Rescue Service, a unique challenge awaits you: the Mayday Rescue Challenge. Your mission is to rescue a downed firefighter under realistic conditions. Strength and stamina are important—but just as vital are teamwork, clear communication, and the right tactics, exactly as in real operations.
Three Scenarios – One Mission
During the challenge, you and your team will face three demanding scenarios:
Operation in zero visibility – rescue in confined and highly obstructed spaces
Obstacle course with rescue – extrication under difficult conditions such as level changes and narrow passages
Rescue from a shaft – rapid and safe recovery from a manhole
Test Area
In addition to the main stations, you will find a test area where you can try out modern tools and tactics, including:
This gives you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and get hands-on experience with new equipment beyond the core challenge.
Knowledge That Transfers to Practice
After each scenario, a structured debriefing with professional and scientific evaluation takes place. You will receive valuable feedback to improve your future performance and sharpen your operational tactics.
The combination of competition and training makes this challenge a unique format: practical, realistic, and directly transferable to day-to-day firefighting.
Participation Requirements
Participation is free of charge and open to firefighters with breathing apparatus training. Each team must bring its own personal protective equipment, including SCBA.
Spontaneous participation at the stand may be possible in limited numbers, but guaranteed entry is only available through prior registration.
Ready to take on the challenge?
Team registration opens with Hamburg Fire and Rescue Service on 20 September 2025.
