Fire extinguished – Environment protected

EXTOVER is an environmentally friendly fire-retardant product from Dennert Poraver GmbH in Upper Franconia, used for fire suppression and preventive fire protection. According to the manufacturer, it causes no damage during fire suppression and is completely safe for the environment and users.

Its effectiveness has been confirmed by the Dresden Materials Testing Institute (MPA), the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Even problematic fire loads, such as lithium-ion battery fires—as seen in burning electric vehicles—can be controlled and suppressed with EXTOVER. The free-flowing granules even completely extinguish metal fires.

The Fire-Extinguishing Effect of EXTOVER

Fuel, oxygen, and heat are the basic elements of a fire. Firefighting methods are based on removing one or more of these basic requirements for combustion. By covering the fire load with EXTOVER, oxygen is displaced and separated from the fuel. The granules melt at a temperature of approximately 700 degrees Celsius, absorbing a great deal of heat in the form of melting energy and thereby cooling the fire.

At the same time, it forms an impermeable shell over the fire load, thereby protecting the surrounding areas from damage. This prevents a reaction with oxygen and the continuation of the fire. The special granule mixture, in combination with the porous and thus large grain surface, also effectively binds liquids. Gases and vapors likewise adhere to the surface and can be disposed of in a bound state.

Comparison with Vermiculite

Due to its relatively low melting point, EXTOVER draws significant energy from a fire starting at the aforementioned approximately 700 degrees Celsius and thus, according to Dennert Poraver GmbH, cools more effectively than vermiculite, which only becomes effective at around 1,200 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its spherical shape, the granules also penetrate even the smallest openings more effectively.

EXTOVER thus represents a modern and sustainable alternative to conventional vermiculite. It is also chemically inert, non-hygroscopic, and dimensionally stable. Its consistent performance is guaranteed even in humid environments and under repeated thermal stress. Furthermore, no respirable particles or harmful dust should be generated during handling. Since EXTOVER is made from 100 percent recycled glass, no primary raw materials are extracted during production, and environmental impacts are avoided.

EXTOVER is therefore designed to stand out as a modern, safe, and sustainable fire protection solution with excellent temperature resistance, chemical stability, and environmental friendliness; according to the Upper Franconians, it represents the better, more sustainable alternative to vermiculite, not least because of its lower melting point.
