Structured real-time communication

In emergency response operations, communication is not just a technical detail; on the contrary, it plays a decisive role in ensuring that help arrives in time, as organizational processes often consume valuable time. At INTERSCHUTZ 2026, Threema will explain how the Swiss messaging app Threema Work helps save crucial minutes through instant alerts and structured real-time communication between emergency responders and rescue teams.

Cross-organizational task coordination – secure and compliant with data protection regulations

Threema Work simplifies and speeds up communication when time is of the essence and multiple organizations are collaborating. End-to-end encrypted, data protection-compliant chats connect partner organizations and external specialists—with clear control over who receives which information.

Even outside of emergency operations, Threema Work streamlines day-to-day organizational tasks: duty rosters, shift requests, and training announcements are sent directly to employees via group or broadcast messages. Integrated polls clarify availability in seconds. In the background, the management dashboard for centralized user administration and extensive API interfaces ensure that Threema Work integrates seamlessly into existing digital ecosystems with established dispatch systems. This allows these systems to trigger alerts directly to defined recipients, and dispatch orders or status updates are delivered via a secure channel to the emergency responders’ smartphones. At the same time, the digital privacy of volunteers remains protected: the secure communication solution works without phone numbers, tracking, or metadata collection.

Threema Work as a Supplement to Radio Communication in Mountain Rescue

In mountain rescue, radio communication sometimes reaches its limits: locations, terrain, weather conditions, or the nature of injuries are difficult to convey precisely through voice alone, and radio interference further exacerbates the problem. Threema Work complements radio communication precisely in this area, transmitting encrypted images, videos, and location data in real time. Through voice calls, video calls, and dynamic groups, the emergency responders involved exchange information directly and can coordinate their actions optimally.

A Communication Channel for 150 Volunteers in Water Rescue

DLRG Bargteheide e. V., an independent local chapter of the world’s largest volunteer water rescue organization, uses Threema Work for internal communication among its approximately 150 members. The organization uses individual and group chats to coordinate training, swimming, and lifeguard groups. Internal group polls are used particularly frequently, for example to organize rides to training sessions. “The messenger helps us promote volunteer engagement efficiently and with modern communication tools,” emphasizes Carsten Rüscher, vice chair of DLRG Bargteheide.
