Leak detection using modern absorber technologies

Headquartered in Paris, Imerys S.A. is a global leader in specialized mineral-based solutions for industry. Founded in 1880, the company has grown over more than 140 years to become the world leader in the extraction and processing of industrial minerals. With locations in over 40 countries and approximately 13,000 employees, Imerys supplies a wide range of industries—from construction and consumer goods to environmental and safety technologies. Its portfolio includes highly specialized raw materials such as bentonite, kaolin, talc, and diatomaceous earth, which contribute to improving the performance of industrial processes thanks to their specific physical and chemical properties.

Trade Show Debut in Hanover: Focus on Leak Control

Imerys is exhibiting at INTERSCHUTZ in Hanover for the first time. In Hall 13 at Booth G42, the company is showcasing its extensive range of high-performance binding agent solutions for leak control. The focus of the trade show presentation is on modern absorbent technologies specifically developed to meet the needs of fire departments, industrial facilities, and emergency response organizations. Imerys experts will be on hand to explain the benefits of the specialized product lines for roadways, industrial sites, and waterways to trade visitors.

Versatile Mineral Granules for Roads and Industry

A central component of the presentation is the Absodan product line. These are mineral granules made from calcined moler—a highly porous diatomaceous earth material that stands out for its unique structure. A key advantage of this material is its durability: even when completely saturated with liquid, the granules remain hard and slip-resistant, which significantly increases safety on traffic surfaces. Absodan is characterized by immediate and effective absorption and is chemically inert, preventing any toxic reactions with the absorbed substances.

The system is also particularly cost-effective, as even a small amount of material can absorb large volumes of liquid, which in turn reduces waste. It is easy to spread and can be swept up without leaving any residue. To meet the various on-site requirements, Imerys offers Absodan in three specific particle sizes: Absodan Universal 30K (particle size 0.5–1 millimeter: The all-around solution for standard applications and large areas), Absodan Plus 20K (particle size 0.3–0.7 millimeters: finer structure for faster absorption), and Absodan Super Plus 10K (particle size 0.125–0.5 millimeters: very fine granules for maximum surface cleaning and extreme absorption speed).

Effective Water Protection

Imerys introduces the Sorbix PP series for use on water and for spill prevention in industrial facilities. These nonwoven absorbents are made of 100 percent polypropylene microfibers. The Sorbix PP White series is specifically designed to absorb hydrocarbons such as oils, gasoline, or diesel. Because the products are hydrophobic, they do not absorb water and remain buoyant at all times. This enables emergency responders to effectively contain spills on lakes, rivers, or oceans and prevent the further spread of environmentally hazardous substances. The products are easy to handle and available in various formats, such as connectable booms.

Quality Through Association Membership

Imerys’ commitment to quality is underscored by its membership in GÖC, the European Association of Manufacturers of Tested Oil and Chemical Absorbents. This guarantees users that the solutions presented meet strict testing criteria and will perform reliably in an emergency.
