The S60 is clearly no lightweight - at more than 220 grams and with a thickness of 13 millimeters, it is built like a firefighter in full protective gear. Its strength can be compared to a firefighter’s too, with a robust design featuring a solid metal chassis and reinforced shatterproof display, tested to withstand drops up to 1.80 meters undamaged. What's more, thanks to its IP68 certification, the S60 delivers the highest available level of protection for smartphones against dust and water. Two small sliding covers can also be used to seal off the speaker and microphone manually so that the phone remains waterproof at depths of up to 5 meters for an hour.

For emergency teams, the key feature of the CAT S60 is the integrated FLIR thermal imaging camera, which is located above the main camera and helps to clarify situations quickly and effectively, especially when visibility is poor. For instance, it can be used to help detect and localize fires as well as the locations of people. While the 80 x 60 pixel resolution is not as high as more expensive cameras allow, it is certainly sufficient for the applications mentioned. Even more impressively, the camera supports high-precision measurements to 0.1 degrees Celsius at a distance of up to 30 meters.
