"One of our aims has been to organize the anticipated meetings, events and visits and to avoid clashes," explains Matthias Ludwig, who, based in Hannover, is one of the GFPA coordinators responsible for INTERSCHUTZ and also helps manage the Hannover Fire Department’s annual "Blaulichtmeile" emergency services festival. "The Blaulichtmeile festival will go a little way towards bridging the gap between now and the start of the main event, INTERSCHUTZ, and building up interest and excitement" he says.

The upcoming Hannover Blaulichtmeile takes place on 15 June this year, exactly one year before the start of INTERSCHUTZ.

INTERSCHUTZ is also picking up a large number of non-commercial exhibitors, including fire departments, rescue services and disaster relief organizations.

"Our registration list is getting longer every day," reports GFPA Secretary-General Dr. Dirk Oberhagemann. The GFPA is responsible for checking registration applications from non-commercial exhibitors.

Digitization as a key theme

"For us, digitization, automation, integration and connectedness are no mere fashionable catchphrases," explains GFPA President Dirk Aschenbrenner. "INTERSCHUTZ 2020 offers unrivalled opportunities for cross-border networking and dialogue between technology developers, manufacturers and users, and the importance of networking and dialogue is something we want to highlight with our showcase, too.” According to Aschenbrenner, the INTERSCHUTZ lead theme, “Teams, Tactics, Technology – Connected for Protection and Rescue", expresses one of the main prerequisites for a properly functioning fire protection, firefighting, rescue and civil protection infrastructure.
