Industrial 5G
5G is the evolution of 4G (LTE) and refers to the 5th generation of mobile communications. Thereby, the next level of the mobile communication standard opens many perspectives in professional applications around wireless networking of devices, vehicles and machines (IoT devices).
Due to very low latency times, digital communication takes place almost in real time. Data transmission rates increase up to 20 GBit/s with a possible device density of up to one million end devices per square kilometer.
What counts most for industry is that 5G will facilitate sophisticated machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in the age of Industry 4.0.
By setting up campus networks with edge computing with and without a connection to the public mobile network, for example, the highest data security requirements can also be met.
And unlike previous generations, representatives of industry were also directly involved in the development of the 5G standards. The advantage of this is that practical requirements for future applications were taken into account right from the start.
