Tunnel rescue training - World first at Lower Saxony pavilion

Studies by Germany's ADAC automobile association show that between 1995 and 2006 there were 97 European road tunnel fatalities, including 51 in 1999 alone as a result of the Tauern and Mont Blanc tunnel disasters. These terrible statistics are the motivation behind a new mobile training facility. Consisting of an approximately 12 meter long tunnel, a tunnel portal and a stretch of road, it enables rescue crews to train in a realistic tunnel environment. A world first, the facility can be transported to training locations anywhere in the German state of Lower Saxony, but will soon be available for use nationwide. It will be on show at INTERSCHUTZ 2010 at the "Fire Services in Lower Saxony" group pavilion operated by the Lower Saxony Ministry for the Interior (Hall 1, Stand F38).
